Job Summary:
The Safety Coordinator develops, administers, and implements company wide occupational safety
programs, and serves as the coordinator for the occupational safety programs within one or more
divisions and/or departments. The Safety Coordinator plans, designs, develops, implements, and
evaluates departmental occupational safety programs.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate and/or implement safety orientation & safety training, inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
- Provide guidance to field personnel via safety briefings and/or issue corrective actions and/or disciplinary measures for repeated field compliance issues.
- Monitor adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors.
- Ensure the timely completion of accident, injury and damage reporting.
- Perform annual evaluation of occupational safety programs in conjunction with the JOHSC committee.
- Design and write safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, provincial and local regulations.
- Review and analyse accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
- Manage injuries in conjunction with the workers compensation board and coordinate early return to work programs.
- Help maintaining compliance websites, and COR certifications
- Foster a culture of safety by coaching personnel at all levels and partnering with project managers to embed practical safety standards into daily operations and planning.
Other requirements for this role may include:
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in Occupational Health & Safety
- Educational Background: NCSO recommended, experience with NLCSA COR program
- Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Act and associated construction industry regulations
- Work Environment: Indoors and outdoors, and handle hazards associated with the trade.
- Licenses and Flexibility: Valid Driver’s License with a clean Driving Abstract required;eligible to receive security clearances with GOC. Some weekend and overtime flexibility may be necessary.
- Communication and Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Travel: Willingness to travel to job sites and off-site locations as needed.
